Djokovic and Couacaud will take on each other in the second round of the 2023 Australian Open on January 19.
It’s no secret that Novak Djokovic has had great success in Australia, especially at the Australian Open. This week, he kept his perfect record there intact by thrashing Roberto Carballes Baena in the first round, winning 6-3 6-4 6-0. A few weeks ago in Adelaide, the Serbian had some trouble with a hamstring injury, and days before his opening match against Roberto Carballes Baena, he had to miss some of his practise sessions in Melbourne. All things considered, he did not overexert himself and spent little time on the court, making it the ideal outing for him.
Enzo Couacaud defeated clay courter Hugo Dellien earlier this week, 6-4 7-5 6-0, to end his first-ever main-draw match at the Australian Open. Five times between 2014 and 2022, the French qualifier participated in the competition; however, each of those campaigns ended in the qualifying rounds. The 27-year-old has only advanced past the first round of a grand slam once, in Paris two years ago, when he defeated Egor Gerasimov in straight sets before falling to Pablo Carreno Busta from a set down in the second round.
