The Serb was broken once during the match, but he converted half of the eight break points he held to defeat Khachanov 6-4, 6-1 in an hour and 28 minutes. Djokovic improved his record against the Russian to 8-1, with his only victory coming in the 2018 Paris Masters final. The six-time champion won in 2019 and 2021, bringing his tournament record to 43-8. Djokovic has just won back-to-back titles in Tel Aviv and Astana.
Lorenzo Musetti rallied from a set down to defeat third seed Casper Ruud in the third round on Thursday, advancing to his first ATP 1000 quarterfinal. Musetti dropped the first set after being broken in the final game, but he recovered in the second and then got the lone break of the third to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. Musetti has recently been on fire. He reached the semifinals in back-to-back tournaments in Sofia and Florence before winning his second title of the season in Napoli. He was knocked out in the first round in Basel last week, but has since won again in Paris.
