On Tuesday, the 2022 ATP Cincinnati Masters' opening round will feature Australian world number 20, Alex de Minaur, taking on Swiss number 102, Henri Laaksonen.
Australian has already experienced success during the American hard court swing, taking home the championship in Atlanta, his first win of the year and his sixth overall. Since then, he has fallen to fellow countryman Nick Kyrgios in the first round of a tournament in Washington, but performed better in Montreal, making it to the quarterfinals before Kyrgios once more cut his participation short. If he wants to advance further in this event, he will be hoping he can avoid his fellow Australian this time. Alex de Minaur does not have a particularly strong track record in Masters series events, with the exception of Indian Wells, where he has twice advanced to the fourth round. He would like to change this.
Laaksonen is presently the most tanked Swiss player, despite the fact that all of his victories have come on the ITF and Challenger tours, as a result of Roger Federer‘s continuing absence from the tour and Stan Wawrinka‘s ongoing injury troubles. His two top senior tour 2022 results have been second-round finishes at the French Open and Miami. He did, however, succeed in reaching Cincinnati for the first time in his career by defeating two opponents who were ranked higher. The 93rd-ranked player in the world, Taro Daniel of Japan, was the first opponent he defeated. Then, after falling behind a set, he fought his way past Brazilian Thiago Monteiro, who was then ranked 65th in the world.
Alex de Minaur and Henri Laaksonen are scheduled to face one another in the Opening round of the 2022 Cincinnati Open on Tuesday, August 16. The tournament is scheduled to run from August 14 till August 21.
The 2022 Cincinnati Open will see six rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These include the round of 64, round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final for both men’s and women’s. The tournament is scheduled to commence on August 14 and conclude on August 21 this year.
