On Friday, Olga Danilovic of Serbia will face Simona Waltert of Switzerland in the quarterfinal round of 2022 Lausanne open.
Olga Danilovic defeated Anna Kalinskaya, who was significantly better ranked, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 by recovering from a double break down in the fourth set, saving a match point on a return, and winning the final four games. She has won three of her four matches in convincing straight sets, leaving her as the lone remaining qualifier. After contracting a viral infection, the 21-year-old was sidelined for seven months and did not start her season until May. Since then, she has only suffered five defeats while winning 13 (clay) matches. As a qualifier, she advanced to the second round at Roland-Garros after surviving four three-set victories.
After failing to serve out the match in straight sets, Simona Waltert was forced to a 1-3 deficit in the third set. In just her third tour-level main draw match, all of which have taken place in Lausanne, she eventually defeated qualifier Cristina Bucsa, 6-1, 5-7, 6-4, and advanced to her first WTA quarterfinal. She is in excellent shape on clay and should go up from the 300s at the beginning of 2021 to the top 150 for the first time. After winning her largest title in W60 Amstelveen last week, in addition to a W60 Chiasso final in April, the Swiss player is on a seven-match winning streak.
Olga Danilovic and Simona Waltert will take on each other on Friday, July 15 in the quarterfinal round of the 2022 Lausanne open. The competition is scheduled to commence on July 11 and conclude on July 17 this year.
