After defeating the emerging German star Jule Niemeier 6-4, 6-2 in Lausanne, Anastasia Potapova, 21, advanced to the semifinal. The underdog beat the third-seeded Irina-Camelia Begu in the first round by the same score. Her form has improved after her victory against Lucia Bronzetti in the first round as seen by her victories. The current World No. 79 won that match in three sets with scores of 2-6, 6-3, 4-6. She also has some tournament experience as the 2019 doubles winner, which she will look to capitalize on. The two players are evenly tied at 1-1; they last met in the 2018 WTA Tashkent, where Potapova won in straight sets.
Olga Danilovic, who is ranked #124 right now, is getting closer to playing in her first singles final since the WTA Moscow in July 2018. She won the event after defeating Potapova in the final, although she has not repeated that success since. Due to the fact that she only started her 2022 tour in May, the Serbian has had a slow year thus far. She has been careful with how she looks while she gradually improves her form by participating in low-level competitions. Her best finish prior to the Ladies Lausanne Open came as a qualifier in the French Open, when she advanced as far as round two.
