Carlos Alcaraz has been the star kid that has got the whole world talking and he will be even more confident at the Rio Open after his recent win at the Argentina Open where he beat Norrie in the finals and on the way also beat the likes of Zapata Miralles, Lajovic and Djere. At the Swiss Indoors, he made it to the semi-finals losing to Auger-Aliassime in straight sets, and at the Paris Masters, he had to withdraw from the match against Rune when the latter was winning that match 3-6, 6-6. He was a huge success at the US Open after which he took a month’s gap from tennis. He beat Ruud in the final in what was a four-set thriller for the fans. In the ongoing Rio Open, he beat Alves in the first-round matchup by 6-4, 6-4, and Fognini in the round-of-16 matchup by 6-7, 6-2, 6-4. In the quarter-finals, he beat Lajovic by 6-4, 7-6.
Nicolas Jarry hasn’t been in good touch lately and has been losing all the recent tournaments he has played in. He will be adamant to make a change in fortune and perform well at the ongoing Rio Open. He couldn’t make it past the first stage mark in any of his last tournaments, losing to Meligeni Rodrigues Alves at the Argentina Open right in the qualifying stages, and also to Riedi at the Canberra Challenger. At the Australian Open, he went past three qualifying rounds and made it to the second round losing to Ben Shelton. And at the Tennis Napoli Cup, he was knocked out by Carballes Baena at the round of 32 stage. In the ongoing Rio Open, he beat Carabelli and Juan Cerundolo in the first two qualifiers by 6-1, 6-2, and 2-6, 3-6 respectively. He beat Musetti in the first-round matchup by 4-6, 1-6, and Martinez in the round-of-16 matchup by 6-2, 6-2. In the quarter-finals, he beat Baez by 6-3, 7-6.
