Carlos Alcaraz has been the star kid that has got the whole world talking and he will be even more confident at the Rio Open after his recent win at the Argentina Open where he beat Norrie in the finals and on the way also beat the likes of Zapata Miralles, Lajovic and Djere. At the Swiss Indoors, he made it to the semi-finals losing to Auger-Aliassime in straight sets, and at the Paris Masters, he had to withdraw from the match against Rune when the latter was winning that match 3-6, 6-6. He was a huge success at the US Open after which he took a month’s gap from tennis. He beat Ruud in the final in what was a four-set thriller for the fans.
Mateus Alves is a newcomer to professional tennis tournaments having not played a single pro competition before this one. At the Tigre Challenger, he couldn’t go past the qualifying stage losing to Descotte and the same was the result at the Tigre Challenger 2 where he was defeated by Sanchez Jover. He also lost the Temuco Challenger in the first round itself to Andreozzi and at the Sao Leo Challenger in Brazil, he got to the round of 16 stage losing to Reis Da Silva.
