Carlos Alcaraz has been the star kid that has got the whole world talking and he will be even more confident at the Rio Open after his recent win at the Argentina Open where he beat Norrie in the finals and on the way also beat the likes of Zapata Miralles, Lajovic and Djere. At the Swiss Indoors, he made it to the semi-finals losing to Auger-Aliassime in straight sets, and at the Paris Masters, he had to withdraw from the match against Rune when the latter was winning that match 3-6, 6-6. He was a huge success at the US Open after which he took a month’s gap from tennis. He beat Ruud in the final in what was a four-set thriller for the fans. In the ongoing Rio Open, he beat Alves in the first-round matchup by 6-4, 6-4, and Fognini in the round-of-16 matchup by 6-7, 6-2, 6-4.
Dusan Lajovic has been playing in the ATP professional tournaments for like a few months now and he still hasn’t been able to make it out to the later stages of any of the competitions. He played at the Australian Open a few months back getting knocked out by Shapovalov in the first round. At the Cordoba Open, he was shown the exit door by Ramos-Vinolas in the round of 16 stage and at the Argentina Open, he made it to the quarter-finals finally losing to the eventual champion Alcaraz. He won the Maspalomas Challenger last year beating the likes of Steven Diez, Llamas Ruiz, Lopez Morillo, Andreev, and Chepelev. In the ongoing Rio Open, he beat Schwartzman in the first-round matchup by 6-1, 6-4, and Djere in the round-of-16 matchup by 2-6, 4-6.
