Top seed Carlos Alcaraz has been the star kid that has got the whole world talking and he will be even more confident at the Barcelona Open after his recent win at the Indian Wells Masters where he beat Medvedev in the finals. At the Swiss Indoors, he made it to the semi-finals losing to Auger-Aliassime in straight sets, and at the Miami Open, he lost to Sinner in the semi-finals missing out on yet another title. He was a huge success at the US Open after which he took a month’s gap from tennis. He beat Ruud in the final in what was a four-set thriller for the fans. In the Rio Open, he again made it to the finals but this time lost the title despite winning the first set of the match to Cameron Norrie who took revenge for his defeat in Argentina. In the ongoing Barcelona Open, he beat Borges in the first-round matchup by 6-3, 6-1, and in the round-of-16 matchup, he beat Bautista Agut by 6-3, 7-5.
10th seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina hasn’t been in good touch lately and has been losing all the recent tournaments he has played in. He will be adamant to make a change in fortune and perform well at the Barcelona Open. He couldn’t make it past the second stage mark in most of his last tournaments, losing to Halys at the Open Sud De France, and to Tommy Paul at the Australian Open. He made it to the quarter-finals of the Adelaide International 2 thereby losing to Bautista Agut after beating the likes of Millman, and Nakashima. His bad performances went on as he saw himself get knocked out of the Miami Open in the round of 32 stage itself. At the Indian Wells Masters, he made it to the quarter-finals getting knocked out by Medvedev. In the ongoing Barcelona Open, he beat Etcheverry in the first-round matchup by 6-3, 6-3, and in the round-of-16 matchup, he beat Ruusuvuori by 6-4, 7-5.
