Marin Cilic and Liam Broady will take on each other in the quarterfinal of the 2022 ATP Tel Aviv Open on Friday, September 30.
By coming back from a set down in the second round (R1 bye) at the ATP Tel Aviv tournament this week, Marin Cilic snapped his four-match losing streak to Dominic Thiem and earned his first victory in that clash. Given his lack of form and confidence, it was the ideal opportunity for the Croatian to surprise the Austrian, which he did with a score of 6-7 6-2 6-4. This is his finest season since 2018, when he was rated inside the top 10 and one set away from defeating Roger Federer in the Australian Open final. The former world #3 has improved consistency in 2022, and this is his best season since then.
Since the start of the 2021 season, Liam Broady has been working extremely hard and demonstrating steady improvement at various levels. This week, on the main tour in Tel Aviv, he finally received his prize. He has advanced back into the top 150 in the live rankings after winning four straight matches, including one against Botic Van De Zandschulp. In a 2017 indoor tournament in Saint Petersburg, where he competed as a qualifier, he also reached the quarterfinals for the first time but fell to Damir Dzumhur in a three-set match.
Marin Cilic and Liam Broady will take on each other in the quarterfinal of the 2022 ATP Tel Aviv Open on Friday, September 30. The tournament has been scheduled to begin on Monday, September 26 and conclude on Sunday, October 2 this year.
