Bouchard made her comeback at the Vancouver Open, a WTA 125k event, after a year on the sidelines due to surgery, but lost in the first round. She also competed in the US Open qualifying rounds, but was eliminated in the second round by Linda Noskova. Bouchard was then given a wildcard to compete in the Chennai Open, where she faced Joanne Zuger in the first round. She had a 4-1 lead in the first set, but her opponent fought her way back into the match to regain serve. Bouchard prevailed in the ensuing tie-break to win the set. The second set was more one-sided, with Bouchard dominating the final five games to take the match.Â
Karman Kaur Thandi, who received a wildcard to compete in Chennai, was drawn in the first round against eighth seed Chloe Paquet. The Indian led 3-1 in the first set, but her opponent won the next five games to take the set. Thandi saved a break point in the sixth game of the second set and then broke Paquet’s serve in the next game to take a 4-3 lead. After a few games, the 24-year-old served out the set to force a tiebreaker. The Indian trailed 2-0 in the third set but quickly tied it up. Thandi won the match 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 after winning four consecutive games from 3-2.Â
