The second seed Belinda Bencic will face Susan Bandecchi in the round of 16 of 2022 Lausanne open on Thursday.
Belinda Bencic overcame a break point early in the third set to overcome Diane Parry, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1, and earn her first victory at a Swiss tournament. The second-seeded player, who had previously suffered an ankle injury when competing in the Berlin final and had to retire, made a strong comeback. The world number 13 would be happy to resume winning after losing to Wang Qiang in Wimbledon’s opening round. Attempting to build on her successful 2022 season, she will make her eighth quarterfinal appearance, her second on clay courts (won the title on the green dirt of Charleston).
For the first time ever, Susan Bandecchi has advanced to the second round of a WTA tournament. Oceane Dodin had defeated her twice previously (on hard courts), but this time, she defeated the Frenchwoman 6-2, 6-1 in 66 minutes as her opponent ended up hitting 12 double faults. After defeating Misaki Doi in the Rome qualifying rounds a few months earlier, it was her second top 100 victory in her professional career. She debuted in the WTA main draw here in Lausanne last year. The 24-year-old lost her singles match in the opening round but won the doubles championship with Simona Waltert.
Belinda Bencic and Susan Bandecchi will take on each other on Thursday, July 14 in the round of 16 of the 2022 Lausanne open. The competition is scheduled to commence on July 11 and conclude on July 17 this year.
