Outside on clay courts, Facundo Bagnis plainly suffers, and he has very little hard court playing experience. The 32-year-old is 2-5 on hard courts this year and has a 5-17 lifetime record there. These two victories in Melbourne and Indian Wells were achieved by the world no. 120. The Argentine’s most recent appearance was last week’s Umag Open quarterfinal. Bagnis won in straight sets over Corentin Moutet and Tomas Martin Etcheverry before losing to Carlos Alcaraz in the round of eight. Bagnis also competed in the quarterfinals earlier this year in Santiago. His record for the entire season is 6-13.
Ernesto Escobedo hasn’t won a match in a long time. His most recent victory came in the first qualifying round of the French Open. He is now on a seven-match losing run, which includes qualifiers. Escobedo has four Challenger championships to his name, all on hard courts. His most recent victory came in January in Bendigo, Australia. The 26-year-old, who lost his first two matches in Los Cabos, advanced from qualifying to the quarterfinals last year before losing to Cameron Norrie. Escobedo, ranked No. 158, has largely played on the Challenger Tour this year, winning a championship and reaching the quarterfinals three times.
