Cori Gauff entered her quarterfinal match against Paula Badosa riding high on confidence after a straight-set win over Naomi Osaka. That Badosa cast a spell around her to defeat the talented American 7-6 (4), 6-2, should give her a lot of hope going into this semifinal. Badosa won in less than an hour and a half, overcoming serve breaks in successive games. She immediately broke back on one of those occasions, and then again as Gauff served for the first set, forcing a tie-breaker. It was all one-way traffic in the second set, as she broke her American opponent twice without facing a single break-point.

The 12th-ranked Russian in the world, Daria Kasatkina overcame a one-set deficit and some bad serving from both players to prevail 4-6, 7-5, 6-0 and advance to the semifinals. Despite having to deal with six serve breaks and spending two hours and 23 minutes on the court to defeat the world number six, Kasatkina would likely be satisfied with her performance, particularly the comeback she delivered. She broke Sabalenka three times from her six opportunities in the final set, and she improved so much that she faced no break points at all.
