Veronika Kudermetova recently completed the best season of her career, one in which she achieved both her singles (#9) and doubles (#2) personal best rankings.
After losing to Yulia Putintseva in the US Open first round, Amanda Anisimova was forced to call it quits for the year 2022. She suffered a broken toe a few days prior in Cincinnati and was forced to play that match with it. It was a disappointing way to cap off a year in which she made seven quarterfinal-caliber performances and returned to the top 25. She’ll be attempting to recapture some of the noble spirit she showed in Australia the previous year. The 21-year-old won her second career title at the Melbourne Summer Set and advanced to the fourth round of the Australian Open by defeating Naomi Osaka and Belinda Bencic (only losing to Ashleigh Barty). She won eight games in January, five of them in three sets.
Veronika Kudermetova recently completed the best season of her career, one in which she achieved both her singles (#9) and doubles (#2) personal best rankings. She pushed through 11 quarterfinals in singles, winning three of them and finishing runners-up in three others (Melbourne Summer Set, Dubai and Istanbul). She achieved three victories in doubles, including the WTA Finals. She played only in Melbourne during the Australian swing of last year, where she won five matches and advanced to the WTA 250 final (where she lost to Simona Halep) and the third round of the Australian Open. She is currently in Adelaide for the second time after competing there in 2021, where she was defeated by Shelby Rogers in the opening round, 6-3, 7-6.
