Ekaterina Alexandrova and Tereza Martincova are scheduled to face each other in the quarterfinals of the WTA Ostrava Open 2022 October 7.
Ekaterina Alexandrova extended her unbeaten streak to seven matches by defeating fifth seed Daria Kasatkina in the second round of the Ostrava Open on Thursday. Alexandrova, who won the title in Seoul by defeating Jelena Ostapenko, started her Ostrava campaign with a three-set win over Victoria Azarenka. In the second round, she continued her winning streak by crushing her opponent in the first set and then holding her off in the second set tiebreak for a 6-1, 7-6 (7-1) victory. In the first set, Kasatkina did not hold serve once. She did put up a fight in the second, going up a break twice, but Alexandrova recovered both times before racing to victory.
Terezza Martincova, a local favorite, reached the round of eight after third seed and defending champion Annet Kontaveit withdrew from the match in the second set due to a back injury. Before the Estonian decided to give up, Martinocva broke him in the first game of the second set before winning the first set in a tiebreak. Martincova beat the World No. 3 in her first match against a top-10 player, despite the fact that it wasn’t a full match. The World No. 78 improved to 22-24 across levels with her victory on Thursday after eliminating Jil Teichmann in two tiebreaks in the first round. She will compete in her third season quarterfinal.
