In the 2022 ATP Hamburg Open's second round on Thursday, teenage Spanish phenom Carlos Alcaraz plays Serbia's Filip Krajinovic to continue his Hamburg campaign.
Carlos Alcaraz was destined to become a major player, which happened to be the case this season. He entered the season having won one ATP 250 championship and the ATP Next Gen finals the previous year. The Spaniard was aiming for a confidence-boosting victory when he returned to clay this month in order to prepare for the upcoming North American hard court swing and the remainder of the season. The top seed Carlos Alcaraz‘s opening set against German wild card Nicola Kuhn did not go well; he appeared out of sorts, and Kuhn took advantage to win the set 6-3. Alcaraz came back well in the second set, winning it 6-1 and advancing the match to a decider. The third set was extremely even, but German Kuhn appeared to be having trouble with an injury and required medical timeouts. Despite this, there was no discernible dip in the quality of play. When necessary, the Spaniard did a good job of raising the intensity, and he won the match’s final set tiebreak 7-3 to end it.
Veteran Serb player Filip Krajinovic has had a hit-and-miss season, with some promising outcomes but inconsistent play. In the opening match against Sebastian Baez here in Hamburg, Krajinovic got off to a terrific start, winning the first set 6-1. However, the runner-up from Bastad last week did well to build on his recent success and win the second set 6-4. Baez had two match points going into the tiebreak, which was a coin toss, but Krajinovic won four straight points to win the tiebreak, the match, and a spot in the second round.
Carlos Alcaraz and Filip Krajinovic will take on each other on Thursday, July 21 in the second round of the 2022 ATP Hamburg European open. The competition is scheduled to commence on July 18 and conclude on July 24 this year.
