The first tennis competition on the 2023 ATP Tour and 2023 WTA Tour is the 2023 Adelaide International 1. It is a joint ATP Tour 250 and WTA 500 competition held in Adelaide, South Australia, Australia, on outdoor hard courts. For the women, this is the third iteration of the competition, while for the men, it is the second. The competition will be held from January 1–8, 2023, at the Memorial Drive Tennis Centre. A week later, the same location will host the 2023 Adelaide International 2, an ATP Tour 250 and WTA 250 tournament. The preliminary rounds will take place on December 31, 2022.

The tournament will be a precursor to the first Grand Slam of the year, the Australian Open which is scheduled to commence on January 16. The two editions of the Adelaide International will play out over the course of a couple of weeks. The first one is set to begin on the first day of the new year and end on January 8. The second will commence from January 9 and end on January 14. Here are some key players to look out for in the ATP Adelaide International 1.

Novak Djokovic

Former world no. 1 and tennis legend Novak Djokovic will be looking to begin his 2023 campaign on a high. After several months of being denied entry into Australia over vaccination norms, the Serbian has finally received his visa and will be eligible to participate in all competitions down under including the Adelaide International. Fans in Australia were ecstatic after he touched down on Tuesday and Djoker Nole will be hoping to repay that faith with one of his classic performances ahead of the first Grand Slam of the season, the Australian Open. The Serbian finished the 2022 season with five titles including Wimbledon and the ATP Finals.

Holger Rune

Danish tennis player Holger Rune came into his own towards the end of the 2022 season. Although he was already considered as one of the brighter prospects in world tennis, Rune really came into the limelight at the Stockholm Open where he beat second seed Cameron Norrie in the semi-final and top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final to win the title. The Dane would then record an even greater feat a couple of weeks later at the Paris Masters. Rune beat Stan Wawrinka, Hubert Hurkacz, Andrey Rublev, Carlos Alcaraz, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Novak Djokovic to win the ATP 500 crown and stamp his seal onto the world of tennis. He will be hoping to start the new season on a high.

Daniil Medvedev

By his lofty standards, former world no. 1 Daniil Medvedev had a season to forget in 2022. The Russian might have reached five finals but he could only win two. The year had started well for Medvedev who found himself in the final of the Australian Open where he fell to Rafael Nadal. He was impressive in June as he reached the finals of the Libema Open and Halle Open, winning the latter. He then won his final tournament of the year in October at the Vienna Open. In 2023, Medvedev will be hoping to add more trophies to his cabinet and have a bit more consistency about his gameplay. So, he will be looking to start the campaign on a high.
