Currently, Kaylee McKeown is one of the most well-known young swimmers. She not only won three gold medals at the Olympics, but also holds the world records for the long course 100 meter backstroke and the short course 200 meter backstroke. She claimed the 4×100-meter medley relay, the 100- and 200-meter backstroke, and both events at the 2020 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo in 2021. At the age of 15, Kaylee joined her older sister, Taylor McKeown, on the Australian Dolphins swim squad. The two sisters had asthma but were able to overcome it with medication. Currently, Kaylee practices swimming with the Griffith University team under the guidance of Michael Bohl.

Since February 2022, McKeown has been dating Tokyo Olympics 2020 bronze medalist Brendon Smith, a fellow member of the Australian national team. Smith surpassed both the Australian and Commonwealth records in the 400 meter individual medley. He did so with a timing of 4:09.27 in the preliminary heats for the Tokyo Olympics 2020.  In the final, he earned a bronze medal in the event with a timing of 4:10.38. This was Australia’s first medal at the 2020 Olympic Games. Smith is also coached by Bohl, who is Kaylee’s coach.

Smith was born in Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia, on July 4, 2022. He is pursuing a Bachelor of Business in Accounting and Finance at La Trobe University. Up until 2022, Smith practiced swimming with the Nunawading Swimming Club in Melbourne’s Eastern Suburbs. Smith began working with Michael Bohl at Griffith University in 2022 after leaving his swim club in Nunawading. At the 2018 Lifesaving World Championships, he participated for the Australian Youth Lifesaving Team. Smith was the lone Victorian on the team. In addition to winning the men’s 17-18 200m Obstacle Race, he set two records and brought home five medals. He participated in the 200m, 400m, 800m, and 200m individual medley events at the 2018 Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships and finished second in the 400m freestyle with a timing of 3:52.67.

In the summer of 2019, Smith competed in the 400m individual medley, 800m freestyle, and 200m breaststroke at the Summer Universiade in Naples, Italy. He also earned the bronze medal in the 4 X 200m freestyle relay with Maxwell Carleton, Ashton Brinkworth, Jacob Hansford, and Cameron Tysoe. Smith took part in the 200, 800, and 1500-meter freestyle races, as well as the 200 and 400-meter individual medley events, at the 2021 Australian Swimming Trials. His performance of 4:10.04 in the 400-meter individual medley final broke Thomas Fraser-Holmes’ previous record of 4:10.14 set at the 2013 Australian Swimming Championships. With this, he earned himself a spot on the Australian Olympic swim team.
