Indian Sporting Calendar 2023: Month of July

Indian sportspersons have been doing exceptionally well in sports tournaments. The last month was a landmark month for Indian archery. Indian archer Abhishek Verma became the third archer to book a seat in the World Archery Championship. Abhishek bagged the gold medal in Medellin in the third stage. In badminton, the men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty won the Indonesia Open. The 62nd inter-state athletics championship gave many promising talents in athletics from the domestic circuit. The athletes are constantly bringing glory to the nation and will continue to do so in July. Let’s look at some significant international events featuring Indian athletes in June.

Stockholm Diamond League (Sport- Athletics, Date- July 2, 2023)

India’s steeplechase champion in the men’s 3000 m category Avinash Sable will be taking part in the prestigious Stockholm leg of the Diamond League. World Lead Jeswin Aldrin who initially entered the meet pulled out in order to recover quickly for the upcoming competitions. The diamond league is an annual series of athletics competitions in which India has won three medals till now. The three medalists from India are Neeraj Chopra, Murali Sreeshankar and Vikas Gowda. The finals of the Diamond League will be held in Eugene, United States.

Wimbledon Championships (Sport- Tennis, Date- July 3 to July 16, 2023)

The talk of the sporting calendar of July will be highlighted by the Grand Slam of this month i.e. Wimbledon. All the players will be grinding out hard this month for the Wimbledon Championships. India’s Yuki Bhambri is set to pair up against Lloyd Harris at Mallorca International. His usual partner Saketh Myneni is out of action for a week.

World Archery Championship (Sport- Archery, Date- July 31 to August 6, 2023)

July is also going to be busy for the archers. Towards the end of the month, we have the World Archery Championships in Berlin (Germany). This will be a qualification tournament for the 2024 Summer Olympics. Many prominent Indian archers like Abhishek Verma, Atanu Das and Jyothi Kumari etc will look to book their tickets to Paris next year. Indian archery has been peaking at the right time. One can therefore hope that Indian archers perform comprehensively.

Canada Open (Sport- Badminton, Date- July 4 to July 9, 2023)

There will be plenty of action for the Indian shuttlers as well. The opening weeks of July will see the likes of Lakshya Sen take on the field in the Canada Open. The Canada Open is an international open held in Canada since 1957. It is usually held in September but this time its gonna be conducted in July. Earlier the championship was under Bwf Super 300 category. However, starting in 2023, Bwf has put this under the Bwf Super 500 category.
