Anush Agarwalla is an Indian Equestrian. He rose to fame when he, teamed up with Hriday Chheda, Divyakriti Singh and Sudipti Hajela, claimed a historic bronze medal for India in the Equestrian – team dressage event. The best three scores of the athletes were calculated which accounted India’s total to 209.205. Out of which, Anush Agarwalla contributed significantly to the combined total, scoring 71.088. He then went on to clinch the bronze medal in the individual dressage event, collection 73.030.

Anush showcased his prowess at the World Equestrian Games 2022 and was one of the dressage participants for India at the Dressage World Championships, alongside Shruti Vora. Anush’s passion for riding blossomed at just the age of three in Kolkata. He relocated to Germany at 17 to hone his skills and chase his aspirations of becoming a top-tier dressage rider. There, he trained under the esteemed German Olympian, Hubertus Schmidt.

Hailing from Calcutta, where horse riding was just a weekend pastime, Anush Agarwalla didn’t grow up in a family of riders. What stands out in Anush’s approach to the sport is his emphasis on building a bond with the horse. He finds joy and fulfillment when in sync with the horse, valuing trust and control achieved through love, not force. The journey, however, wasn’t without its challenges.

Anush’s parents have been very supportive about his sporting career and have helped him in overcoming hurdles, especially during his shift to Germany. Their financial, mental, and emotional backing played an indispensable role in his achievements. Anush’s move to Europe was motivated by the recognition that equestrianism, particularly dressage, was underdeveloped in India. With Europe being the heart of the sport and India lacking infrastructure and facilities, relocating was necessary, but a challenging decision.

During the pandemic, Anush Agarwalla faced the challenge of being away from his family but chose to focus on training. His determination is evident as he aims to reach the ultimate goal, i.e., qualifying for the Paris Olympics 2024. For Anush, becoming an Olympian would be a personal achievement. Anush emphasizes the uniqueness of equestrianism – its combination of teamwork with a living being and the emotional connection it demands. Despite the sport’s limited exposure in India, he sees its potential to captivate audiences with its beauty and emotion.
