The upcoming 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, are set to showcase several fresh sports such as breakdancing, esports, open-water marathon swimming, and skateboarding. As a result, these additions to the Asian Games lineup are a deliberate effort to align with evolving athlete and fan preferences. Additionally, it also aims to broaden the Games’ appeal to a diverse audience.
Breakdancing will be one of the two new sports introduced for the Asian Games. It will also be making the Summer Olympics debut in Paris next year. Breaking, also called b-boying, b-girling or breakdancing, is an athletic style of street dance originating from the African American and later Puerto Rican communities in New York City, United States. Naturally, the diverse set of games that is going to feature in the Asian Games as well as the upcoming Paris Olympics is going to change the definition of sports. It will also be a very good platform to break the existing dynamics within which sporting circuit operates.
