The wait for Dricus Du Plessis and Robert Whittaker’s highly anticipated championship eliminator match at UFC 290 is growing in the mixed martial arts community. The stakes are high, with the victor earning the opportunity to challenge the formidable middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya, for the coveted belt in September.

Du Plessis radiates confidence as he prepares to step into the octagon against Whittaker. He believes that he is the better fighter and has the skills to finish Whittaker.

“I require the best of me to put on a performance that I know I can, to not only beat Robert Whittaker but to do it in spectacular fashion,” Du Plessis asserted confidently.

Dricus Du Plessis: Adesanya sees him as the real champion

In an intriguing twist, Du Plessis reveals that even Adesanya himself sees him as the real champion. The South African fighter states that Adesanya has already expressed interest in facing him, reinforcing his position as a legitimate contender for the title. Du Plessis firmly believes that he doesn’t need to call out Adesanya after the fight because the champion will be the one pursuing a clash with him.

“Even Izzy is treating me like the champion; he has been calling me out,” Du Plessis revealed. “That is done and dusted.”

Du Plessis’s motivation stems from the opportunity that awaits him as he pursues the middleweight title. His ambition of becoming the UFC middleweight champion would come true if he defeated Whittaker and received the desired championship opportunity. He has prepared to present his case at UFC 290 on February 5th and is certain of his ability to succeed.
