“Tall” Steve Mowry, the undefeated heavyweight from Sanford MMA, will continue with Bellator MMA for the foreseeable future. On Wednesday, the organization revealed that Mowry (10-0) had signed an exclusive multi-fight, multi-year contract with them. The 29-year-old is presently rated #5 in Bellator’s heavyweight category and has a 100% finish rate. Mowry began his career with the regional company Titan FC, where he went 4-0 before joining Bellator MMA in 2018. His six-fight winning streak has only seen him exit the first round once, when he submitted Gokhan Saricam in the second round at Bellator 231 in 2019.

Mowry most recently defeated PFL veteran Rakim Cleveland at Bellator 271 in November. Mowry, who is originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, does not presently have a bout scheduled. In the category, however, only Cheick Kongo, Fedor Emelianenko, Linton Vassell, and former interim champion Valentin Moldavsky are ahead of him, with Ryan Bader still holding heavyweight gold. Bader recently defended his championship against Kongo at Bellator Paris. Emelianenko is largely expected to retire after his next bout, and Vassell might be the next championship contender. Mowry, on the other hand, might be banging on the door of his own opportunity at gold with a couple more victories.

Steve Mowry had an excellent run

Mowry, 29, has risen to No. 5 in the BELLATOR heavyweight rankings on the strength of his extraordinary unblemished record, which includes a scorching 100 percent finishing rate. The Pennsylvania native has dazzled combat fans with his explosive fighting style and tendency for highlight-reel stoppages at Sanford MMA in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He has added four submissions and two knockouts to his already excellent professional record after signing with BELLATOR in 2018.

Throughout his career, Mowry has overpowered his opponents, specifically on the ground. The 6’8″ Brazilian jiu-jitsujitsu black belt under Gilbert Burns has six submissions to his name, the majority of which have come via kimura and keylock variations; his other two submissions have come via triangle choke and arm-triangle choke, correspondingly. Only three times in his professional career has he advanced to the second round inside the BELLATOR cage.
