Barcelona are reportedly close to signing Ajax full-back Noussair Mazroui. The Catalan club is going through a rebuilding process under their former player-turned coach Xavi Hernandez. The Spanish tactician’s plans are already taking shape, just four months after taking charge of the club. The legendary midfielder has done exceptionally well so far to build a team around young players while retaining the services of some wise heads, thus creating a very good balance between youth and experience.

According to Diario Sport, Barca could be on the verge of securing their third signing of the new season in promising right-back Mazroui. Xavi wants to strengthen the right-back position which is currently occupied by Sergino Dest and Dani Alves. Dest is a highly-rated footballer who is likely to be the number one choice in that position. But 38-year-old Alves is in the final lap of his career and therefore Mazraoui could be a very good back-up option.

The report states that the Ajax full-back, whose contract expires at the end of the season, was recently courted by Real Madrid and Bayern Munich but the Los Blancos soon found out that the 24-year-old had already agreed a pre-contract deal to sign for FC Barcelona in the new season.

The Moroccan international has a bright future ahead of him. His technical prowess on the flanks could make him a vital cog in Xavi’s plans, with the player hoping a move to Camp Nou can help him achieve greater heights.

The Catalan club have almost signed midfielder Franck Kessie from AC Milan for a free transfer and they are now looking to strengthen their defence. According to Fabrizio Romano Chelsea centre-back Andreas Christensen has agreed to Join the Blaugrana at the end of the season and the Dane has committed a five-year deal with the La Liga giants.

Barcelona are currently going through a very impressive run of form under Xavi. The Blaugrana had won all of their last five league games, and are placed third in the La Liga standings.

Xavi’s January window signings have done wonders for the club. The new recruits  Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, Ferran Torres and Adama Traore have been in stunning form since joining the club in the winter. Aubameyang has netted 11 times in 10 appearances so far.
