According to a latest report by SPORT, Barcelona are moving closer towards reaching a deal with AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie over a Bosman move in the summer. The Ivory Coast international has informed Milan that he won’t be renewing his contract with the club, putting him on course for a free transfer, with the Catalan club looking like the front-runners to secure his signature. The EUR 5 million per season offer that Milan put forth was deemed unacceptable by the player, leading to the speculation of an exit.

The 25-year-old’s situation has also been monitored by Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur. However, SPORT reports that over the past month talks between Kessie and Barcelona have been progressing well, and that each round of negotiations have been fruitful, bringing the two parties close to an agreement.

Since joining Milan in 2017, Kessie has become one of the best midfielders in Serie A. The Ivorian is a physically strong and tall midfielder who is pretty good with the ball at his feet. He has a good range of passing and reads the game very well. He has also added goals to his game, having netted 13 times last season while scoring six in 2021-22.

Kessie initially joined Milan on loan from Atalanta before making the move permanent for EUR 25 million in 2019. He has made 163 Serie A appearances for the club and scored 34 league goals in total.

With Sergio Busquets not getting any younger at 33, Barca boss Xavi would be looking for reinforcement in the defensive midfielders position. Kessie looks like the perfect option who could very well fit into Xavi’s plans as he has great ball-winning and ball-carrying abilities. Signing a proven talent like him in a Bosman deal would be a coup for any club.
