Barcelona captain Sergio Busquets has offered a bit of future advice to his younger teammates Ronald Araujo and Gavi. Both the players will see their contract with the Catalan club expire in June 2023. However, they are yet to agree to a contract extension at Camp Nou and Busquets has warned the duo that if they leave the club , they will likely end up regretting their decision. The Blaugrana are currently going through a successful rebuilding process under Xavi and have been in stupendous form off late.

“I have spoken with them many times and they know they won’t have it like they do here anywhere else. Not the club, but the dressing room, the city…,” Busquets said.

“They have been here for years. They know that they have many years left in their career. If one day they want a new experience, maybe after 10 years you want to go to the Premier League or the United States, that’s normal, but to leave so soon… Those that have left and could have stayed always regret it.”

The duo has played a key role in the team’s rejuvenation under the Spanish tactician. Centre-back Araujo has been a pillar at the back alongside Gerard Pique and apart from his defensive prowess he is a dangerous customer when it comes to set-piece situations in the opposition penalty area. The 23-year-old has netted four times in 22 La Liga appearances for Barca this season so far.

Meanwhile Gavi has been the find of the season along with Pedri. Both the teenagers have been touted as the next big thing is Spanish football. 17-year-old Gavi made his international debut against Italy in the UEFA Nations League semi-final win against Italy in October and thereby became the youngest player to ever represent Spain at the senior level. Gavi has made 24 league appearances this campaign, scoring twice and registering four assists.

I hope I can play at the World Cup: Busquets

Busquets also went on to talk about his own future at the club and made it clear he still has enough left in him to carry on for a while but has started to think about how much longer he has left at the very top

“I think I can help and I am helping. I still have a year on my contract. I am going step by step. I know I am 33,” he said.

“I will end this season and go into the last year of my deal, with the World Cup, so it will be different with the break in the middle for that.

“I hope I can play at the World Cup. After that, I will see how I am, what the coach wants from me, the club… And we will decide. I will not be a problem, honestly.

“When my contract expires, maybe the coach and the club will want me to continue, but maybe I will feel the moment has arrived.”

Barca are currently placed third in the La Liga standings, having won their last five league games, including a 4-0 thrashing of arch rivals Real Madrid. Xavi’s side will return to action on Sunday with a league fixture against second-placed Sevilla at Camp Nou.
