Barcelona agree deal for 18-year-old midfielder Pablo Torre

The teenager will spend the rest of the season with Racing Santander before heading to the Camp Nou on a deal that runs until June 30, 2026.

Barcelona have beaten off competition from Real Madrid to sign highly-rated 18-year-old Pablo Torre from Racing Santander. The Catalan club announced the news on Friday following a flurry of reports that a deal for the talented Spaniard was close. The teenager will spend the rest of the season with Racing before heading to the Camp Nou on a deal that runs until June 30, 2026.

Torre is viewed as a potential future star but will initially feature for the club’s reserve team Barcelona B beginning this summer, before challenging for a first-team place in the medium term.

Blaugrana stated that the transfer fee was EUR 5 million with the amount potentially reaching EUR 20 million based on variables. He is now signed with the La Liga giants and the midfielder’s contract will have a termination clause set at EUR 100 million.

Barcelona’s official statement read: “FC Barcelona and Racing de Santander have reached an agreement for the transfer of player Pablo Torre. The agreement amounts to 5 million fixed euros plus variables depending on the footballer’s development in the coming years, which may exceed 20 million.

“Pablo Torre, who will finish the season at his current club, will sign a contract until June 30, 2026, with a termination clause of 100 million euros, and will join Barça B starting next summer.”

A number of top European teams including Real Madrid were keeping a close eye on Torre, who has been impressive for the Racing this season, but Barca won the race to get his signature. 

The Spain Under-19 international has scored six goals in 21 appearances for Racing. Barcelona will be the perfect destination for Torre to polish his skills and grow as a footballer as the club has a habit of prioritising emerging Spanish talent. Signing Pedri from Las Palmas in 2019 and promoting academy youngsters Gavi and Nico to the first team.

Moreover, the presence of head coach Xavi will help the teenager reach the summit of the footballing world. The Spanish tactician himself is a Barca legend and one of the best midfielders to have played the beautiful games.
