Former India cricketer Suresh Raina can credit a lot to ex-India and CSK captain MS Dhoni for showing faith in him and grooming him over the years in the national team and IPL franchise. However, at the IPL mega auction, one major surprise turned out to be the Chennai franchise not showing any interest in Raina who was released earlier from the squad.

Raina, subsequently, went unsold in the IPL mega auction as no other franchise picked him up. However, he took up the role of a commentator and expert for the IPL 2022, and will be visible on the official broadcaster’s hindi network throughout the season.

Raina was also present in a segment on the inaugural day of the IPL 2022 where he proved that no love is lost between him and CSK as he turned emotional during a conversation.

“As I passed by the Wankhede Stadium while on my way to the show, I wished I could calmly put on the yellow jersey and enter the venue,” Raina said during the live broadcast on Star Sports.

Raina featured in 205 matches for CSK between 2008 to 2021. He scored 5528 runs during this period and also picked up 25 wickets to establish himself as one of the key figures for the side.

Meanwhile, CSK, lost their opening fixture to KKR in absence of Raina. CSK captain Ravindra Jadeja said that the dew will be a vital part in IPL 2022 while KKR captain Shreyas Iyer highlighted that he had nerves at the beginning but the management helped him to stay calm.

“Dew will be the vital part in this edition. If you win the toss, you will look to bowl first. The wicket was a little damp in the first 6-7 overs and then it came on nicely in the back end of the innings. We were trying to take the game deep. Everybody bowled well given the dew. Bravo bowled very well,” Jadeja said at the post-match interview.

“In the start I had nerves, but the management and coaching staff are brilliant. They helped me to calm down, they backed me and I am very grateful to them. He (MS Dhoni) always has been my inspiration. I always looked up to him and whatever he does I just try to imitate it and I have a lot to look and lot to learn from him. Learning a lot (On playing the helicopter shot) and picking up quite a lot from him (MSD) actually,” Iyer expressed.
