Rishabh Pant is considered to be the next big thing not just in India but in world cricket. The left-hander from Delhi has been compared to the likes of MS Dhoni and Adam Gilchrist for his keeping and batting. It is well-documented that Rishabh Pant was the clear under-study to MS Dhoni when he was evolving. Ever since his debut in 2017, Pant has been the No.1 keeper of choice across formats for India. Rishabh Pant is the only Indian keeper in history to hit centuries in Tests played in Australia, South Africa, and England.

Not only has he revolutionized the way how he bats, but Pant has created records that even MS Dhoni and Adam Gilchrist have not achieved. Gilchrist changed the way how wicketkeeper-batsman go about their cricket. MS Dhoni took it to a different notch. But, Pant, combining a mixture of aggression and solid keeping, has created this stat that has put both of the great keepers behind.

Rishabh Pant Has THIS Better Record Against MS Dhoni, Adam Gilchrist

When one looks at the IPL, Rishabh Pant may not have many dismissals and a number of runs as compared to Dhoni and Gilchrist. But, in his short tenure of four years, Pant has already created the record for the most dismissals in a single edition of the IPL. In 2019, while playing for the Delhi Capitals, Pant effected 24 dismissals. Pant took 18 catches and six stumpings. Pant is only the second player in the history of the IPL to have effected 20 or more dismissals in the IPL. Quinton de Kock took 22 dismissals in IPL 2020.

The record of 18 catches is the joint-highest for Pant in the IPL. De Kock and Naman Ojha are level with Pant on 18 catches. When it comes to stumping, he is in an elite list. His six stumpings are level with Robin Uthappa and Brendon McCullum. Only Gilchrist is higher than Pant with a whopping eight stumpings during the 2009 IPL for Deccan Chargers.

When one looks at Dhoni, he has been consistently having dismissals in the range of 14 to 17 in a couple of seasons. Dhoni’s best season was 17 dismissals during the 2013 IPL for Chennai Super Kings. Dhoni ended with 16 dismissals for both IPL 2019 and 2020. Dhoni is consistent and Gilchrist is legendary. But, when looks at the overall picture, Pant is on the path of becoming greater than Gilchrist and Dhoni.
