Pinnaduwage Wanindu Hasaranga de Silva, brother of Sri Lanka all-rounder Pinnaduwage Chaturanga de Silva, hardly took anytime to settle in his debut season of IPL as he has already picked up six wickets in three matches in the ongoing season after Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) showed faith in him and bought him for INR 10.75 crore at the mega auction.

Hasaranga was pursued by the Bangalore-franchise as a replacement of top India wrist-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who proved to be a handful during his time, but the Sri Lankan has carried the momentum from him with his googlies and leg break proving him to be an ideal candidate.

However, growing through the ranks of U-13 cricket in Sri Lanka, Hasaranga was always a promising talent and continues to leave his mark wherever he plays.

Wanindu Hasaranga: Followed the footsteps of his brother

Cricket runs in the family for Hasaranga. Hasaranga was born to his police constable-father and housewife-mother. He used to have a pleasant time in his childhood while watching his elder brother, Chaturanga de Silva (played seven ODIs and T20Is for Sri Lanka), play and picked up the sport from him.

Wanindu Hasaranga: A successful domestic-cricket all-rounder

Hasaranga makes it among the elite cricketers in Sri Lanka to have played domestic cricket. He holds a first-class batting average of 40.98 and a bowling average of 30.36.

He has three first-class centuries and five five-wicket hauls in first-class cricket and was a part of the Sri Lanka U-19 World Cup squad in 2006 where he picked up seven wickets, including a 3/34 in the quarter-final against England which helped the junior side reach the semi-finals.

Wanindu Hasaranga: One of the youngest ODI hat-trick takers on debut

Hasaranga, was a 19-year-old boy, when he forayed into the Sri Lanka ODI team in 2017 and picked up a hat-trick against Zimbabwe at Galle as he picked up the last three wickets of the visiting side.

At 19 years and 338 days, the hat-trick, made him the third youngest in ODIs to achieve the feat after Aaqib Javed (19y and 81d) and Saqlain Mushtaq (19y and 310d).
