IPL 2022 SRH vs RR: All-round Rajasthan Royals race to a convincing victory

Rajasthan Royals (RR) started their IPL 2022 campaign with a stunning win over SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) started their IPL 2022 campaign with a stunning win over SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. After the batting unit’s excellent outing that saw them put up a huge total of 210 runs, the bowlers too did an amazing job and sealed the deal by registering a win by 61 runs as SRH could only manage 149 runs.

Pace-spearhead Prasidh Krishna provided the first breakthrough as he removed Kane Williamson for a mere 2. However, not only that as he returned again and dismissed Rahul Tripathi for a duck and Trent Boult removed the key batsman Nicholas Pooran for a duck that too within the powerplay. And, soon after Yuzvendra Chahal sent Abhishek Sharma in for a mere 9 which left the team struggling at 29 for 4 within 9 overs as well.

It became a herculean task for the middle orders and Aiden Markram started to steady the ship. Unfortunately, he lost Abdul Samad for 4 before sharing a 41-run stand with Romario Shepherd (24 off 18). His dismissal brought Washington Sundar in the middle. He played a brilliant cameo for his side, amassing 40 off 24 with 5 boundaries and 2 sixes as well.

Bowlers’ day out

However, Aiden Markram played single-handedly, scoring a swashbuckling 57* off 41 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes. But his efforts went in vain as RR won the game quite convincingly. For RR, Yuzvendra Chahal claimed 3 wickets whereas Trent Boult and Prasidh Krishna scalped 2 each.

Earlier in the game, put into bat, both the RR openers – Jos Buttler (35) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (20), captain Sanju Samson (55), Devdutt Padikkal (41) and a stunning cameo from Shimron Hetmyer (32) helped them put up a huge total of 210 runs on the board.

Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal stitched 58 runs within 6.1 overs before Romario Shepherd removed Jaiswal. However, he smashed 2 fours and a six as well. Soon Jos Buttler too got out for 35 as well.

Sanju Samson and Devdutt Padikkal steadied the ship in the middle overs

Later, captain Sanju Samson (55 off 27) tried to resurrect the ship with Devdutt Padikkal (41 off 29), stitching 73 runs. While Samson smashed 3 fours and 5 sixes, Padikkal hit 4 fours and 2 sixes during his stay in the middle. However, Umran Malik broke the stand as he bowled a length delivery on the off and Padikkal tried to hit it down to the third man but the ball went through and smashed into off and middle stumps as well. Even Samson too got out after scoring a half-century.

Later, Shimron Hetmyer and Riyan Parag scored quickfire cameos. They added another 44 runs before Hetmyer got out after scoring 32. However. T Natarajan removed both the batsmen as Rajasthan Royals managed to post 210 runs in their allotted 20 overs. For Hyderabad, Umran Malik and T Natarajan picked up two wickets each.
