IPL 2022: MS Dhoni replaces Ravindra Jadeja as Chennai Super Kings captain

In a major turn of events, Ravindra Jadeja has handed back the Chennai Super Kings captaincy to MS Dhoni.

In a major turn of events, Ravindra Jadeja has handed back the Chennai Super Kings captaincy to MS Dhoni. The all-rounder took the decision to concentrate more on his game and requested Dhoni  to lead CSK. In return, the veteran wicket keeper-batter accepted the request in the larger interest and to allow Jadeja to focus on his game. “Ravindra Jadeja has decided to relinquish captaincy to focus and concentrate more on his game and has requested MS Dhoni to lead CSK. MS Dhoni has accepted to lead CSK in the larger interest and to allow Jadeja to focus on his game.”

Ravindra Jadeja captained Chennai Super Kings for eight games

Jadeja took the decision after leading the defending champions for eight games in the IPL 2022. Under his captaincy, CSK won two out of their eight games, and currently sit at the ninth spot in the 10-team tournament. Dhoni had decided to step down as the captain before the start of the season after leading the franchise for 15-straight years. 

MS Dhoni’s stint as Chennai Super Kings captain continues 

The former India captain was roped in by CSK as the most expensive player from the inaugural IPL auction held in 2008. He has led the Chennai franchise since the first season — barring their two years of ban — and played an instrumental role in establishing them as one of the most consistent sides. The 2011 World Cup winning captain led CSK to a record 121 wins in 204 matches in the IPL. The franchise won the IPL title in 2010, 2011, 2018 and 2021 under his captaincy besides finishing as runners-up on five occasions (2008, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2019).
