IPL 2022 TV Ratings: The standard of cricket is top class

The IPL has turned out to be a major attraction for not only cricketers but investors across the world. The lucrative tournament is the biggest T20 franchise league across the world with only the 50-World Cup seemingly anticipating more views than the BCCI-governed tournament.

“We haven’t seen the entire viewership report as yet. But any fall in television ratings is a concern. The matches and standard of cricket is absolutely top class. We are sure the ratings will pick up in coming weeks”, a top BCCI official was quoted as saying by Insidesport.

“This wasn’t expected. The IPL Ratings are below-par. The ratings have never fallen this much. It’s almost 20-30% down and just imagine we have paid 25% more than last rates. We have already reached out to Star Sports for a solution”, informed a top ON-AIR advertiser on IPL 2022.

IPL media rights on sale

Multi-millionaire giants TV18-Viacom, Disney, Amazon interested and Sony have bought the Invitation-To-Tender (ITT) for the e-auction of the Indian Premier League (IPL) media rights for 2023-27, indicating early interest in the deal, with American Tech giants Apple supposedly set to join next week according to a report in the Times of India. The Board of Control For Cricket in India, the parent body of the lucrative tournament, had last week invited bids from reputed entities to acquire the Media Rights for the Indian Premier League Seasons 2023-2027, through a tender process.

The IPL media rights will be sold in four separate buckets for the first time. The BCCI has made it clear that no consolidated bid for all four buckets will be entertained and said that the bidding parties will have to separately bid for each package.

Bundle A: It includes the Television rights for India subcontinent. The base price in this category is Rs 49 crore per game.

Bundle B: It includes the Digital rights for the India subcontinent. The base price for this package is Rs 33 crore per game.

Bundle C: A package of 18 matches — season opener, playoffs, evening matches — the reserve price in this cluster is calculated at Rs 16 crore per game.

Bundle D: It includes the rest of the world’s rights. Base price for this package is Rs 3 crore per game.
