Rajasthan Royals (RR) displayed an all-round performance with the bat and ball to restrict Mumbai Indians (MI) to 170/8 in the chase and clinched victory by 23 runs in the IPL 2022 contest at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai on Saturday.

Chasing a challenging target of 194 runs, Mumbai Indians lost their opener and captain Rohit Sharma (10) early. However, Ishan Kishan (54), continued to build on his momentum from the previous match to score his second consecutive half-century in IPL 2022.

Ishan Kishan-Tilak Varma effort goes in vain

The southpaw notched up five boundaries and one six over the top in his stay of 43 deliveries but he failed to get enough support from the other end as Anmolpreet Singh (5) was sent packing early.

However, later, young Tilak Varma (61) took charge of the innings and played a brilliant knock to keep the asking rate under check. His 33-ball cameo was laced with three boundaries and five hits over the fence.

But following his dismissal, West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard (22), failed  to make his bat do the talking from the word go in a crunch situation due to some brilliant bowling effort from Rajasthan Royals.
His partners Tim David (1),  Daniel Sams (0), Murugan Ashwin (6) and Jasprit Bumrah (0 not out) failed to do much with the bat.

Yuzvendra Chahal misses out on a hat-trick

RR wrist spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was the pick of the bowlers for his team as he returned figures of 2/26. He dismissed David and Sams in two consecutive deliveries in the 16th over but a dropped catch from Karun Nair in the slips saw him miss out a well-deserved hat-trick.

India fast bowler Navdeep Saini also picked up two wickets while Prasidh Krishna, Trent Boult, Ravichandran Ashwin bagged one scalp each.
