Rahul Tewatia (40 not out) and David Miller (30) wreaked havoc to make a perfect start for Gujarat Titans (GT) in the IPL as they chased down a target of 159 runs against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) with two balls to spare in the IPL 2022 contest at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday. The Ahmedabad-franchise, thus clinched victory by five wickets.

Chasing the target, Gujarat Titans lost their top-order batters Shubman Gill (0) and Vijay Shankar (4) cheaply. But cameos from Matthew Wade (30) and Hardik Pandya helped GT maintain the asking rate. Wade smashed four boundaries in his 29 ball stay while the all-rounder and captain hit five fours and a six in his innings off 28 deliveries.

However, continuing to add to the tempo, Tewatia and Miller looked at ease as they complimented each other to forge a 60-run stand for GT. Miller smashed one four and two sixes in his stay of 21 deliveries while Tewatia played a match-winning knock off 24 deliveries laced with five boundaries and two sixes.

Abhinav Manohar, meanwhile, gave a good account of himself as a finisher as he smashed 15 runs off seven deliveries in his unbeaten innings.

Sri Lanka fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera was the pick of the bowlers for LSG as he returned figures of 3/22 but missed out his length in his third and final over which cost plenty of runs.

Deepak Hooda, Ayush Badoni rescue LSG ship

Earlier, Deepak Hooda (55) and Ayush Badoni (54) played brilliant rescue knocks to help LSG post 158/6.
Asked to bat, factoring in the dew factor, LSG lost their top-order batters KL Rahul (0), Quinton de Kock (7), Evin Lewis (10) and Manish Pandey (6)  to leave their side reeling at 29/4.

However, middle-order batters Hooda and Badoni, forged an 87-run stand for the fifth wicket to rescue their side to 116/5 before the former was sent packing in the 16th over.

Hooda smashed four boundaries and two hits over the top. However, unperturbed by his dismissal, young Badoni continued to show his confidence to hit four boundaries and three sixes in his 41-ball knock.

Badoni was well complimented by all-rounder Krunal Pandya (21 not out) who played a brilliant cameo knock to help LSG cross the 150-run mark. He hit three fours in his unbeaten stay of 13 deliveries.

Veteran India fast bowler Mohammed Shami used his experience to the fore for Gujarat Titans to run through the LSG top-order — Rahul, de Kock and Pandey (6) — and make a head start in the IPL 2022. He was the pick of the bowlers for GT as he returned figures of three for 25.
