Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) rode on luck to beat league leaders Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 contest at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Thursday. RCB openers Virat Kohli (73) and Faf du Plessis (44) set the foundation for the win for RCB as they forged an opening stand of 115 runs after surviving a few inside edges and missed catch opportunities. Kohli who recorded his highest score in IPL 2022 smashed eight boundaries and two hits over the top in his 54-ball knock while the RCB captain played the role of a perfect second fiddle to record five boundaries in his stay of 38 deliveries.

The luck factor continued to play a major role in the RCB innings as Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell survived a scare after a delivery from ace spinner Rashid Khan hit the bails and it lit it but didn’t come off. The incident took place in the 15th over of the match after du Plessis was dismissed with the ball racing away for four byes. Maxwell made the most of his chance and remained unbeaten on 40 off 18 deliveries to take RCB home.
There was a similar situation in the match between Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals when leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal deceived opener David Warner with a leg-break but the bails didn’t come off. “Since it was first time this happened with me, even I was shocked because the ball hit the wickets and the bails did not fall,” Chahal told ESPNcricnfo on Thursday. “If such a thing happens at a crucial time especially with a batsman like Warner, who does not offer too many chances… so if he had got out at that juncture then probably the match result could have been different.”
