Soo Greyhounds will take on the Flint Firebirds in the OHL Canada on November 16 at GFL Memorial Gardens. At the Dort Financial Center in Flint on Friday night, the Soo Greyhounds were defeated 5-4 by the Flint Firebirds when Braeden Kressler scored the game-winning goal late in the third. When Samuel Ivanov was given a two-minute penalty for holding Caeden Carlisle at 16:25, Kressler scored the game-winning goal 34 seconds later with a one-time slap shot from the face-off dot to the right of the Hounds goalie. With fewer than five seconds left in the game, Kalvyn Watson had a chance to tie it, but he backhanded the puck over the crossbar as Firebirds goalkeeper Will Cranley was down on the ice in his crease.
For the Hounds, Bryce McConnell-Barker scored twice, Tyler Savard also scored once, and Jordan D’Intino also scored once. In his last two games, Savard has two goals and three assists. Ivanov (2-1-2-1) was defeated despite blocking 37 shots. The goalie’s defeat marked his first setback in a regular-season game; his previous three defeats all occurred in overtime or a shootout. The Firebirds also received goals from Tyler Deline, Dmitry Kuzmin, Tristan Bertucci, and Amadeus Lombardi. In the victory, Cranley (6-5-1-0) turned away 29 shots. This season, the Firebirds have triumphed in both meetings with the Greyhounds. The clubs last faced off on October 5, with the Firebirds winning 5-3 in Sault Ste. Marie.
