Justin MacDonald scored in the power match with a score of 4:05 in the third inning and the Knoxville Ice Bears held Macon Mayhem to a 3-2 win Friday night at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum. Brady Fleurent has scored twice for the Ice Bears, who have won three games in a row. MacDonald also had two assists and Kristian Stead made 19 saves. MacDonald scored with an easy sneak touch to put Knoxville ahead after Dino Balsamo poked him through a twisty cross ahead of Tom Aubrun. The goal came seconds after Macon’s David Nippard was sent to the box for a face foul.
In the end, Mayhem had a chance with a late power play to level the game, but Stead stopped Liam Blackburn from the left and Macon never got another quality chance. but some quality saves from Aubrun helped Macon take out three plays of Ice Bear’s power. Aubrun stopped MacDonald before the bend, kept an Andrew Bellant pass in front of him and created a scoring opportunity for Cole McKechney from the cross. Caleb Cameron put Mayhem ahead with a power play goal 34 seconds into the second half. Rhett Kingston slid the ball from circle to circle and Cameron fired a shot from close range into the net of Kristian Stead to make it 1-0. Fleurent ended the game for the Ice Bears with a goal in a power play at 13: 18.

When Knoxville was leading 5-3, Brett Beauvais made a shot from the top of the right circle. Fleurent put him past Aubrun to score his fifth goal of the year. Macon regained the lead three minutes later when Tommy Munichiello collected the ball loosely behind the Knoxville net and beat Stead in a siege. Fleurent again sealed the score by pushing a ball loosely under Aubrun’s hand less than two minutes into the second half. MacDonald grabbed the ball in the right circle and pushed it through the slot, where Fleurent placed his cane on it under Aubrun’s right pad. Aubrun finished with 26 saves.
