Team India are currently taking on the West Indies in their third World Cup match this season where the opener Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur slammed centuries. With these, India posted a mammoth total of 317/8 while batting first against West Indies at Hamilton.

After having lost their last game by 62 runs to New Zealand due to a poor batting performance, India needed to bounce back against West Indies – the team that already won their last two games against New Zealand and England and they responded well too.

However, Yastika Bhatia took the charge and got off to a flying start, scoring 31 off 21. Although India lost Deepti Sharma and Mithali Raj in quick successions, swashbuckling opener Smriti Mandhana and the vice-captain Harmanpreet Kaur steadied the ship. While Mandhana scored 123 off 119, Kaur amassed 109 off 107. Together they slammed 23 fours and four sixes and added 184 runs for the fourth wicket — the highest for India in the Cricket World Cup.

Meanwhile, Team India put up 317 runs in their allotted 50 overs – it is also the highest total for the World Cup this season so far. However, social media was full of praises after the twin tons from the Indian batters.

Here is how Twitterati reacted to the centuries of Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur:

However, after the first innings, Smriti Mandhana said, “The way Yastika started that gave me a lot of confidence and after we lost three wickets I had to put on a brake and really happy with the way Harry (Harmanpreet) played as well. We did not get a good start in the last game and we discussed about that and momentum is very crucial and that’s what Yastika did, taking on the bowlers from the start. I would say this is among my top three knocks. After last game we really want to come back strong and considering the situation, I would rate this knock a bit higher (among her five ODI tons).”
