CWC22: Australia vs West Indies: Australia register their fourth win in the tournament

Australia registered their fourth consecutive win to stay on top of the ICC Women's World Cup points table as they defeat West Indies by seven wickets in Wellington.

Australia registered their fourth consecutive win to stay on top of the ICC Women’s World Cup points table as they defeat West Indies by seven wickets in Wellington. In the match, West Indies chose to bat and were all out within 131 runs which Australia were able to reach in 30.2 overs as well.

Ellyse Perry provided with the early breakthroughs where she removed Hayley Matthews and Kycia Knight for ducks on consecutive deliveries in the second over. Although Deandra Dottin and Stafanie Taylor started to resurrect the innings, their stand was broken by Perry again in the tenth over. At 34 for 3, Taylor smashed a half-century, and she was needed someone to be with her.

Australia placed at the top of the points table

On the other hand, West Indies kept losing wickets at regular intervals and couldn’t bounce back. Ashleigh Gardner too bagged three wickets as Australia dominated proceedings with no lower-order batter making any significant contribution.

In the chase, West Indies managed to dismiss Alyssa Healy and Meg Lanning early but weren’t able to trouble more. Ellyse Perry too struggled with the bat, scoring 10 off 31, but Rachael Haynes scored an unbeaten 83 to ensure a convincing win over West Indies. Beth Mooney too stayed there and stitched 74 with Haynes – and helped Australia win as well.

Brief scores: West Indies 131 in 45.5 overs (Stafanie Taylor 50; Ellyse Perry 3-22, Ashleigh Gardner 3-25) lost to West Indies 132/3 in 30.2 overs (Rachael Haynes 83*) by seven wickets.
