The inaugural Women’s FIH Hockey Nations Cup, an annual qualifying competition for the Women’s FIH Pro League run by the International Hockey Federation, will take place in 2022. From December 10 to December 17, 2022, the competition will take place at the Estadio Betero in Valencia, Spain. The winner will have the opportunity to advance to the FIH Pro League’s 2023–2024 season. The FIH Women’s Nations Cup will serve as a qualifying event for the FIH Pro League’s 2023–24 season when it is played for the first time in 2022.

The Indian women’s hockey team made its FIH Pro League debut in 2021–2022, winning bronze at the Commonwealth Games 2022. After Argentina and the Netherlands, India came in third place. The Indian women will now aim to win the FIH Women’s Nations Cup in order to qualify for the Pro League for the second time in 2023–2024. In Pool B of the inaugural FIH Women’s Nations Cup 2022, which will be held in Valencia, Spain from December 10–17, the Indian women’s hockey team has been placed. South Africa, Canada, and Japan make up the remaining members of the group. The top two Indian women in each group advance to the semi-finals as they compete against their opponents in a round-robin league format.

Format

The eight top-ranked teams in the Women’s FIH Pro League that are not in the league compete in this tournament. The tournament winner will be elevated to the FIH Pro League the following season in place of the lowest-placed team, which will be demoted. Only if the team satisfies the prerequisites for Pro League membership will they be promoted. The first-place finisher will earn a spot in the FIH Pro League’s 2023–2024 season.

Indian contingent

The Indian Women’s Hockey Team will compete in the 2022 FIH Women’s Nations Cup from 11–17 December, and they left for Valencia, Spain on Saturday night from Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport. A promotion-relegation system will be implemented for the 2022 FIH Women’s Nations Cup, and the winners will be promoted to the 2023–24 FIH Hockey Women’s Pro League. The 20-member team will be led by goalkeeper Savita.

Schedule

The opening match will be played on 11 December in Valencia between India and Canada; two teams who are very familiar with each other having faced off in the FIH Hockey Women’s World Cup Spain and Netherlands 2022 as well as the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, within the past two months.
