Things have not gone to plan at the club at all for Tottenham Hotspur’s record signing, Tanguy Ndombele. After the departure of former manager Mauricio Pochettino, the French midfielder has been frozen out of the club by the succeeding managers. The former Lyon player has reportedly handed in a transfer request and has refused to play for the north London club any longer. Tensions seemed to be on the rise between him and current Spurs manager Nuno Espirito Santo as the latter said in a recent press conference that it was not his job to convince players to play for him. Nuno had admitted that Ndombele would not be a part of the squad in the Premier League tie against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.

“What happened in the past I can’t even think about, I don’t mention out of respect,” Nuno said. “What I can tell you is that Tanguy is with us, he works but we have to speak honestly and to take the best out of Tanguy (it) has to come from himself. I don’t want to go much further than that but it has to come from himself. We already had a chance to talk but it must come from himself. I said it before, my job here is not to convince players to play for Tottenham Hotspur, it is to prepare players to play for Tottenham Hotspur,” the Portuguese manager added.

Ndombele is the most expensive signing in the club’s history, costing Daniel Levy a sum of 54 million pounds when he was bought in 2019 while Pochettino was still in charge. He had a dream debut as he came off the bench and scored a screamer at the new Tottenham Hotspur stadium. However, ever since the Argentine’s departure, Ndombele has not been given the chance to perform by succeeding managers like Jose Mourinho, Ryan Mason, and now Nuno. It is only fair in his situation to refuse to play for the club.

THE HARRY KANE SITUATION

Spurs will have a very chaotic last few days in the summer transfer window as they have to now sell Ndombele before the window closes. They would be looking to get a reasonable price for the Frenchman since he was so inexpensive in the first place, but it is unlikely that any club would want to pay a big sum for him anymore. It is surely a situation Levy would not have wanted to find himself in, especially with the whole saga of Harry Kane reportedly wanting to move away from north London.

The England skipper’s future seems to be at the Etihad Stadium as Manchester City are reportedly preparing a mammoth 150 million euros bid for him after their one for 100 million was reportedly rejected by Spurs. Speaking about Kane, Nuno said that the decision of him being involved against Wolves on Sunday would be made on Saturday.

“He trained well today. He is better than yesterday. It is a growing process. Each day he goes on the pitch he improves his fitness,” Nuno said. “There is not much more than I can add that I have not already said. Everything, everything, not only with Harry but with all the players. We had issues with the match yesterday. The players are recovering. We have to measure all the things with all the players, and Harry is one more situation where we have to think and decide,” he added.
