Manchester United supporters were treated to the exciting news of full-back Luke Shaw extending his stay with the club. The English left-back has put pen to paper on a new four-year deal that will see him remain at Old Trafford until 30th June 2027. It is to be noted that Shaw’s contract was set to expire at the end of next season. This comes after Man United triggered a 12-month extension in his deal at the end of last year. With Shaw establishing himself as regular for both club and country in his position, the latest development will act as a major boost for the supporters.

Luke Shaw, who joined from Southampton in 2014, has made 249 appearances for the Red Devils. His journey at international level has also been extremely promising after participating in two World Cups and one European Championship. “Nine years ago, I signed for this amazing club, and I’m thrilled to be extending my stay,” he was quoted as saying by the club’s website.

‘There’s a great opportunity to create something special here’

“I’ve grown immensely since coming to Manchester all those years ago, both as a person and as a player; I know what is needed to succeed at a club like this. We’re at the beginning of our journey under the manager and his coaching staff. We’ve been successful already this season, but we want much more. There’s a great opportunity to create something special here, and I’m going to give everything to be part of that.”

Manchester United’s football director John Murtough was also happy to see Shaw extend his deal, as he wants the English full-back donning the United jersey for several years. “Luke is a massively important player to the squad and has grown into one of the best defenders in the world. He has been at the club for nearly a decade and understands the expectations for success, and the hard work, commitment and high standards required to achieve it. He has added leadership to his other outstanding abilities, and we all look forward to seeing him in a Manchester United shirt for years to come.”

Luke Shaw is the best left full-back in UK: Erik ten Hag

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is delighted to see Luke Shaw signing a contract extension. The Dutch manager showered praise on the Englishman, saying Shaw is the “best left full-back in the UK.” “[He’s had a] great, great season so far. [He’s made] great progress, so I think it’s really good news for Manchester United that he stays playing for Manchester United. I think it tells everything, he’s the best left full-back in the UK,” the manager added.

“You see it also in the England team, he is performing so well there as well. So we are really happy that he extended his contract and that he stays longer with us and is going with us in this project and in this journey. We have high ambitions and we need Luke Shaw to fulfil those ambitions.”
