A lot of positives can be taken from Manchester United’s impressive 2022-23 season. The Red Devils not only defied odds to finish third in the Premier League table but also won a trophy in the EFL Cup, ending their long wait to win silverware. Even though United lost the FA Cup final to Manchester City, Erik ten Hag and his boys can still be happy about how the season has panned out. One of the key reasons behind United’s positive season is their stellar home run.

Across all competitions, Manchester United played 33 games at Old Trafford. They lost only two of them while winning an astonishing 27 matches at home, equalling their previous record. This home form helped the Red Devils have a good finish to the Premier League season and also go deep in Europa League. Besides, this form helped United have excellent cup runs over the course of the campaign.

Young winger Anthony Elanga believes the impressive home run is down to few reasons. One of them he believes is down to the fantastic home support Manchester United have received in most games, while the other is the mentality instilled by Erik ten Hag to keep winning every match. “We’ve got a fantastic record now at Old Trafford,” he told the club media.

“One, it is to do with the fans, and two, to do with our attitude and wanting to win because that’s what United is about. It’s about winning, winning and winning. I feel like that’s really been instilled into us by the manager and also by the players, you know, wanting to win and wanting to get trophies. And I feel like it will only get better. That’s all we can do, just keep progressing and winning.”

Anthony Elanga revisits Liverpool win

Elanga has went on to call the supporters as 12th man and praised the contributions made by them throughout the season. “They’re our 12th man, so you could say. [They have been] crucial to some of the games that we’ve been struggling to win. But we managed to win because they pushed us, so yeah, the 12th man has been helping us a lot this season,” he elaborated.

Anthony Elanga then reminisced the 2-1 win over Liverpool at the start of the Premier League season, which he believes set the platform for United to enjoy a successful campaign. “That game [was] probably one of the best, if not the best game this season because we came back from losing two games in a row and that game was crucial for us to win. As soon as we came out, Old Trafford was bouncing, I feel like that gave us that energy to beat Liverpool. I feel like that kickstarted our season and then from there we have just been improving and progressing,” he stated.
