Divock Origi was understandably happy with helping Liverpool secure all three points against Wolverhampton Wanderers with a late goal on Saturday. The Belgian came off the bench to score the 94th-minute winner at Molineux. It adds to his long list of important goals he has scored for the Reds. The three points saw Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool leapfrog Chelsea in the Premier League standings. The Reds made the most of the Blues losing at West Ham United earlier in the day. Origi told Liverpoolfc.com, “Yeah, I would say we all enjoyed it a lot.”

“It was a huge win for us. We wanted to keep the momentum going. We know that today is going to be a hard game defensively, as well as offensively. They were well organised but in the end we found the solution and that’s what we do it for.

“I think that ties in with the values of the club – keep believing, keep going. In the end you can only control the moment you are in and just try to make the right play every time again, even if you fail again and again. In the end, we are happy that we got the goal, even though it was a bit late. We enjoyed it.”

Origi: Winning games is all you work for

Origi then tried to explain the overwhelming emotions a player experiences when scoring a late goal like that. “Winning games is all you work for. We try to work on the details during the week and we’re together the whole season to try to get wins, obviously play well. In the end, getting that win, getting that goal is the best feeling and it keeps us also going [with] the momentum. Very happy,” he added.

When asked about the message he received from the manager when coming on, Origi said, “I tried to stretch the defence and play my qualities. Whenever I get the ball, be strong and then try to go on the one-on-ones and create danger. For me, today it played out well. I tried to utilise the space as much as possible and obviously being able to score and help the team is the most important thing.”

Origi also spoke about the importance of keeping a clean sheet on Saturday. “One hundred per cent. It was a huge challenge for us today. In the Premier League, every game is a huge battle. We were there, even when there were moments where it was going up and down, we controlled the game. In the end, offensively you try to score and then keep the clean sheet. I would say it’s a successful day,” he added.

‘He is an incredible finisher’

Meanwhile, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was all praise for Divock Origi after the forward’s 94th-minute winner helped the Reds gain a crucial 1-0 win. Klopp opened up on why Origi has the knack of scoring big goals. “Because he is an incredible finisher – if we don’t know it at Liverpool, who should know it then? We saw that so often. How I said, it’s difficult to get 500 minutes a week in this team because of the players we have. But Divock Origi is an incredible football player. He is great in these moments, he doesn’t need a lot of run-up or time to find into a game, and especially not in this game today,” he explained.

“It was his game, he could be Divock Origi 100 per cent: in and around the box, use your body, use your technique, finish the situations off. He was unlucky with the ball before I think, he was involved in a lot of good moments, he was a threat before he scored. These kinds of goals we see plenty of times in training and everywhere. Winning in the 95th minute is great, but when Div scores the goal it makes it even better, to be honest.”
