Arsenal supporters could not have hoped for a better start to the summer transfer window than to see their club sign Kai Havertz from Chelsea. It was one of the biggest transfer surprises of this window. Over the last few years, Havertz established himself as a pivotal part of the Blues’ set up. His versatility played an equally important role in the German midfielder being a regular for the Stamford Bridge outfit.

Havertz can play anywhere in the attacking third, including as a striker or a false nine. He has scored several important goals for Chelsea playing as the main frontman, with the winner against Manchester City in the 2021 Champions League final standing out. Kai Havertz’s excellent ball control and good dribbling ability allows him to keep hold of the ball well under pressure. He is also very good at linking with his teammates in the final third.

‘I’m so glad to join this amazing club’

Arsenal supporters will hope that Havertz can bring that same form to the Emirates Stadium in the coming season and help the Gunners go one better in the Premier League table after finishing second last time out. “It’s super exciting for me personally. I’m so glad to join this amazing club. This club has such a big history, and I hope we can achieve lots of things, and I’m just looking forward to meeting all the players, the staff, and yeah, it’s going to be exciting,” he told Arsenal.com.

After a long wait, Arsenal will be returning to the Champions League. Havertz has played an important role for Chelsea in this competition over the last few seasons. Notably, he scored the all-important winner against Manchester City in the 2021 final.  “I think the Champions League is a special tournament and I think every football player just loves to play there,” he added.

“I was fortunate to win the trophy and for me it was the best feeling I’ve ever had. So to play there again next season with Arsenal is very exciting for me. Hopefully I can bring some good attributes into the team, hopefully to win the trophy again. Because I think it’s the most special trophy to win.”

Kai Havertz on his jersey number

In the upcoming season, Kai Havertz will wear his favourite number 29 jersey. Explaining the reason behind choosing this number, Havertz said, “I have had it now for many years. I chose it when I became professional in Germany, and since then, it’s always given me luck. When I became professional I took it because it has some history with my brother. We used to take it always when we played some video games together. I think it’s the perfect number!”

Havertz also spoke about how difficult it was to play against Arsenal during his time at Chelsea. “I think the family mentality that the team has on the pitch is one of the reasons why it so hard to play against Arsenal. I guess they have it off the pitch as well. So the team mentality in the squad is very, very high and you can feel that. Obviously there’s so many talented players and there’s big room to achieve big things as well,” he added.
