Indian Super League (ISL) side FC Goa have completed the signing of Dylan Fox from North East United FC. According to media reports, the Australian put pen to paper on a one-year contract with the club after completing the formalities on Tuesday. The 27-year-old joined the Highlanders in October, 2020 from A-League side Central Coast and went on to make 21 appearances for the ISL side. With the arrival of Fox, the Gaurs have now completed the signing of their full quota of Foreign players.

Fox played a vital role in North East United’s impressive campaign last season, finishing third in the league table before bowing out to ATK Mohun Bagan in the playoffs.

“I’m thrilled at having completed the signing. FC Goa was in touch ever since the season was over and it was a move both of us wanted. Last season, I grew to appreciate the kind of football they play and I really wanted to be part of the team. And that was a feeling that was reciprocated. I can’t wait to get started,” Fox said.

The central defender spent four seasons in the A- League before moving to India. He is very strong in the air and has decent ball playing abilities in addition to his physical prowess. His ball playing skills could suit FC Goa’s possession based game.

FC Goa’s Director of Football, Ravi Puskur also sounded excited at having completed the swoop. He said, ” We’re pleased to bring Dylan on board. He was a very instrumental player in NorthEast United’s campaign last year and we feel he’ll be a good fit in our system as well. His knowledge, experience of the league is an added benefit and we expect him to settle into the team in no time.”

Apart from Fox, the other Foreign players in the FC Goa squad for the eighth edition of ISL are- Edu Bedia, Ivan Gonzalez, Jorge Ortiz, Alberto Nogura and Airam Cabrera.

Striker Cabrera is also a new arrival whereas the other three have already been with the club in the previous season. The Spanish forward has been roped in to replace last season’s ISL Golden Boot winner Igor Angulo, who has moved to Mumbai City FC. He too has joined on a one-year deal. The 33-year-old’s contract with Poland’s Wisla Plock had ended and he has plenty of experience in playing in Europe.

For the upcoming ISL season, only four foreign players would be allowed on the field. Therefore Juan Fernando’s side is also looking for quality Indian players in vital positions. They have already signed young winger Nongdomba Naorem on free transfer from Kerala Blasters. The 21-year-old was part of the Indian national team that played in the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup in India.

And the Gaurs are also looking for a quality Indian defender. Because of the new rule, it wouldn’t be a very good idea to start with two foreign defenders in every match, which could curtail their attacking threat. Therefore having a reliable Indian centre-back is going to be crucial in the long run.
