As reported by The Bridge Football, FC Goa winger Romario Jesuraj has agreed on terms to join Chennaiyin FC in the summer transfer window. The 25-year-old’s current contract with FC Goa is ending this May thus making him available for a free transfer. Jesuraj has penned a three-year contract with the Marina Machans which will keep him at the club till 31st May 2025. The Tamil Nadu-born footballer joined the Gaurs in 2019 and went on to have a successful stint.

However, the current season hasn’t been great for the winger as he found himself out of favour during the second half of the season. He has managed to make nine appearances and scored two goals in the 2021-22 Indian Super League season.

Romario rose to lime light after his impressive two-year stint with Chennai City FC. He scored three goals in 38 appearances for the Southern side and played a pivotal role in winning them Hero I-League in 2018-19 and then FC Goa came calling. He was sent on loan to Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan AC for the 2019-20 season, won his second Hero I-League title Under Kibu Vicuna Jesuraj and impressed a lot with his 11 appearances.

After a successful loan spell with the Mariners, the winger returned to Goa and finally made his ISL debut last season. He quickly developed into one of the regular starters in the Goan side under Juan Ferrando. He even played all five matches in the group stage of the AFC Champions League.

Both FC Goa and Chennaiyin FC didn’t have a great ISL 2021-22 season as they are out of contention for a play-off spot. Therefore the two time champions Chennaiyin FC has started their business to steer their ship for the upcoming ISL 2022-23 season. CFC has already extended the contract of midfielder Anirudh Thapa and have now almost secured the services of local boy Jesuraj.
