Hyderabad FC head coach Manuel Marquez was “very happy” and credited his players after the 2-1 Indian Super League (ISL) victory over Bengaluru FC at GMC Athletic Stadium on Friday. Javi Siverio (16’) and Joao Victor’s (30’) first half goals were enough for HFC to bag all three points on the night even as Sunil Chhetri (87’) found the back of the net late in the game to make it nervy in the last few minutes. Marquez was speaking to the media after the match and when asked whether he was happy with today’s performance, the Spanish tactician said: “Yes, because today we played against a very strong side. As Bengaluru FC were unbeaten for nine games and they were too fighting for the top four.  But we suffered a defeat in our last match, so a win after a defeat means a lot.”

BFC managed to register only one shot on target in the entire match and when asked about his team’s defensive performance the head coach said: “ In the first half, we played very well. With good combination and played to our style. In the second half, they put four players in attack. But our defenders, center backs, and all the team, in general, were very good today in terms of defense. “

It was a difficult win: Marquez

Sunil Chhetri did find the back of the net with a neat finish from Udanta Singh’s cross to set up a nervous end to the game. But HFC managed to see off any threats and sealed all three points on the night.

“The problem is, when you are winning 2-0, then you have to continue attacking, because if the other team scores one goal then you have to change your tactics. But the instructions at halftime were that we have to score the third goal because if we managed to score the third goal, the game would have been finished. I am very happy and all the credit to my players because it’s a very difficult win.”
